What is the Uniform?
The Uniform grinder from Wilfa (Norway) was developed between Wilfa & Tim Wendelboe - a man who knows coffee, and whose opinions are widely respected in the speciality coffee industry.
Wilfa first released the Svart, designed to compete with the Baratza Encore, which it beat hands down (faster, quieter and better grind), however the Svart was only ever designed to be a filter coffee grinder, not espresso. Since then there has been an expectation for them to release an espresso grinder - hence the Uniform.
Is it any good?
In short, yes - it's pretty outstanding for a sub £300 grinder. It's very well built, Scandi in design, grinds quickly and delivers a very 'uniform' grind. It grinds into a small metal grinds bin that sits at the foot fo the unit.
Who is it suited too?
The Uniform is really geared for those looking for a cross over grinder that can deliver both filter and espresso grind. It's not a 'dedicated' espresso grinder; by that we mean that it does not have a fork for a portafilter (espresso machine handle) to sit in and dose into, so it's not a great solution for those wanting a grinder for an actual espresso machine (Such as Gaggia Classic, Rocket, La Marzocco, Expobar, Di-Longhi etc).
That said, if you are looking for a sleek & easy to use grinder for both filter (Moccamaster, Wilfa Classic, Chemex, Kalita, V60 etc) and espresso (Such as the Moka Pot AKA Stove Top, Aeropress etc), it's a seriously good option.
