Our Story

Our Story

Machina's story is one of coffee and music.

The brainchild of two people on the lookout for their next creative challenge. One, an ex DJ and A&R Manager from the music industry, with a major coffee obsession.

The other, a long-time coffee industry professional, with a background in training and a semi-professional show-tune singing habit.

Both had a similar view on coffee, and a goal to make speciality coffee an engaging and welcoming thing for everyone.

The Roastery

The Roastery

We are proud to be one of Edinburgh's leading coffee roasteries and part of the rapidly growing independent Scottish coffee scene.

Our facilities span across two warehouses in EH10, covering roastery, quality control & offices, then technical, training and display.

We roast on traditional Probatone drum roasters; old school German engineering modified to work with advanced technology and data analysis.

We take a grounded approach to coffee, with an offering designed to be accessible to everyone wanting to enjoy great quality coffee without the jargon or attitude.

We welcome both existing and new customers to visit our facility, to view and explore our roasting process.

Going beyond fair trade

Going beyond fair trade

We only work with a select group of coffee suppliers who not only source and supply exceptional coffee but are also highly regarded as attaining the very highest standards when it comes to Ethics and Fair Trade.

Our suppliers not only source and supply coffee but also develop grassroots relationships with coffee farmers, washing stations, and processing mills at origin.

Further, they invest in their infrastructure, support their plans for development and help them improve the lives of those involved at each stage of the supply chain.
