Who are Profitec?

Profitec are a division of ECM based in Hieldelberg, Germany, offering high grade German engineering at a very high standard.

What is the Profitec DRIVE?

The DRIVE is the latest high end machine to be released by Profitec, and it packs a punch in terms of aesthetic and features.  It is replacing the current PRO700 model, which is their top end dual boiler machine.  This means it comes with the existing features such as dual boiler technology, PID control, dual water connect and rotary pump, but then it get's a series of great new tech added that set it apart from the competition in both ability and price.

The DRIVE still boasts two stainless steel boilers; a 2-litre steam boiler and a 0.75-litre brew boiler. With dedicated boilers for brewing and steaming, you’re able to pull a shot of espresso and froth milk at the same time.

Each boiler has dedicated PID temperature control, allowing for greater temperature control and accuracy, and improved consistency with room for experimentation with new coffees.

It also contains a rotary pump which is extremely quiet and offers stable pressure delivery, separate boiler and pump pressure gauges, a cool touch technology (anti-burn) stainless steel steam wand, separate hot water tap, a large stainless steel drip tray and a large cup warmer.

The DRIVE has had a series of very strong features added that will appeal to the coffee perfectionists of this world.  These include:

Fast heat up: Get your machine up and running faster, you can activate the Fast Heat-Up mode.

Auto turn on / off: You now have the option to program automatic switch-on and switch-off times.

Flow Control: The built-in Flow Control valve (Sitting on top of the E61 Group head) allows you to regulate the water flow to the brew group and also to change it during brewing (Flow Control).

Active and passive pre-infusion modes: Various settings are available to achieve the best possible extraction result.

Updated OLED display: A new micro LED display adding to the overall aesthetic. Settings include - PID controls (Individual temperature settings for both boilers). Shot timer (Display espresso’s flow time to the second).

ECO Mode: Program to auto turn off at set intervals.

Finish: New black coated cup surround, providing a sleek contrast to the top of the machine.

Joystick control: 360d joystick control for both water tap and steam wand. Temp activation and perm click activation.

The DRIVE is the closest Profitec machine to the Rocket R58 (aka Cinquantotto).  The main differences are:

• The PID is front facing and not on a detachable device.
• It's reservoir cover is the entire top section of the machine instead of a lid.
• It's slightly more understated in design in a cool / minimalist way.
• It includes flow control, while the R58 does not.
• It includes auto on/off settings,  while the R58 does not.
• It's around £250 cheaper; a considerable sum.

All machines are re-tested before they leave us, so that we know 100% that they are in perfect working and aesthetic condition when they reach you. Factory testing is good quality, but these machines come delivered in trucks from Milan to the UK, where they go through considerable movement along the way.
