We got our hands on the first prototype of the new hand grinder by Knock today- my goodness it's good.
Knock are a Scottish company who are known for their beautifully finished tampers, and in fact make Machina's own branded tampers in beech and walnut.
Their high end hand grinder is a long-awaited addition to their range, and is completely different from anything else on the market.
The finish is beautiful, with a simple and solid design in hardwood and steel, this is a product that is a pleasure to look at and to handle. Adjusting the coarseness of the grind was a very straightforward with the prominent dial on top.
To test the grind, we brewed a Chemex with 20 grams of Steampunk's Yirgacheffe, which ground with relative ease. Grinding with this grinder is unlike any other hand grinder we have ever used- it has a real weight to it and it fits in the hand nicely.
The grind allowed us to brew a pretty clean tasting cup that went down well with our willing test subjects.
We're extremely excited to be involved in the development of this beautiful product and really look forward to stocking it in our shop.Â
