    Pieter Johannes is a fantastic single estate. Well-balanced, with layers of complexity for those looking for it. Everything you've always wanted from Brazil.

    Flavourwise, it's really big on banana, present from the first sip. This morphs into broader tropical notes, soon to be followed by a sweet, fudge-like body. As the flavours get to know each other it positively screams "banoffee pie". And to finish the experience, creamy crushed almonds leave a lovely coating across your tastebuds.

    The Producer

    Pieter Johannes Marie Keijsers moved to Brazil from the Netherlands in the 1990s as an intern. He began his farming career with poultry and peanuts, before founding his coffee farm Sitio Maracatu in 2008. At 70 hectares, it's relatively modest in size for a Brazilian single estate. Keen to improve the cup quality and complexity, Pieter has spent recent years planting shade trees and experimenting in fermentation techniques.

    This lot is 100% Catiguá variety, and keen tasters might detect a slight anaerobic quality to the cup: though naturally processed, the cherries were treated to an extended fermentation in anaerobic conditions - natural with a twist.

    • Roasting Schedule

      Your coffee will be roasted within 1-16 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point at 12-36 days old). We recommend letting this coffee rest for at least 12 days before using, in order to release excess gas which can impact the flavour of your cup.

      If you would like your coffee fresh, please leave a note with your order and we will do our best to accommodate.
