    The Profile

    The Profile

PB Baragwi is a regional lot of exceptional Kenyan coffee grown by the Baragwi Farmers' Cooperative Society in Kirinyaga.

Deliciously sweet and tangy, you'll first taste a vibrant acidity which reminds us of fizzy sweets. This develops into a refined, sugary birthday cake sweetness, and freshly picked red berries. Exceptional clarity, lightly peppered with deep floral yet tart hibiscus tones and a lingering, boozy, merlot body.

This coffee will taste fantastic however you brew it, but we really recommend a hand pourover to really accentuate its clarity and complexity.

    The Producers

    The Producers

The majority of coffee in Kirinyaga, like much of Kenya, is grown by smallholder producers. Most of the producers that form this cooperative grow on just 1-2 hectares of land, some with as few as 100 coffee trees. The land here benefits from volcanic, sandy soil and high altitudes, perfect for coffee.

PB is a classification of coffee used in Kenya, and refers to the shape and size of the green coffee. PB, or 'peaberry', is a cherry with one large seed (coffee bean), instead of the usual two half seeds. It's often produced in quite low volumes, and well sought after, described as having IPA-like characteristics. This specific lot is actually a blend of the best performing PB graded beans from the Baragwi Farmers Cooperative Society.

    • Wholesale

We are always looking to work with like-minded businesses to serve our coffee.

If you're interested in serving this locally roasted Edinburgh coffee as your main offering, a guest appearance or as bags of retail, get in touch with us on  roastery@machina-coffee.co.uk or call (0131) 656 9565.

    • Roasting Schedule

Your coffee will be roasted within 1-16 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point at 12-36 days old). We recommend letting this coffee rest for at least 12 days before using, in order to release excess gas which can impact the flavour of your cup.

If you would like your coffee fresh, please leave a note with your order and we will do our best to accommodate.
