    The Profile

    The Profile

Our first Chinese coffee in quite some time, Ou Yang is a lovely example of this emerging origin in speciality coffee.

Light, sweet and juicy from the first sip, almost candy-like in sweetness reminding us vividly of retro watermelon slice sweeties. As the flavours develop you'll notice a soft citrusy note, like fresh lemon in tonic water which works well to balance the sweetness. As it cools you'll enjoy notes of roasted hazelnuts. It's got a bit of a quick finish but that's no bad thing when all you want to do is take another sip.

    The Producers

    The Producers

Ou Yang farm is located in Jiangcheng Hani and Yi Autonomous County of Southern Yunnan, near China's border with Vietnam and Laos. Owner Mr Ou is passionate about coffee, and the communities responsible for its cultivation and processing. He is committed to producing high quality beans in order to access better pricing that can in turn uplift members of local hill tribes out of poverty and seek meaningful employment on his farm. In order to ensure the quality of coffee on Ou Yang farm Mr Ou seeks to continually improve pruning techniques, fertiliser schedules and processing techniques among others to sustain this industry for his community.

Speciality coffee is a relatively new export of China. The crop was first introduced in the late 1800s, but it wasn't until the 1980s that production began to take off on any significant scale. Most of the coffee grown in China is commercial grade, but there is a notable speciality market emerging, made attractive by the better prices producers can attain.

    • Wholesale

We are always looking to work with likeminded businesses to serve our coffee.

If you're interested in serving this locally roasted Edinburgh coffee as your main offering, a guest appearance or as bags of retail, get in touch on either roastery@machina-coffee.co.uk or call us on 0131 656 9565

    • Roasting Schedule

Your coffee will be roasted within 1-16 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point at 12-36 days old). We recommend letting this coffee rest for at least 12 days before using, in order to release excess gas which can impact the flavour of your cup.

If you would like your coffee fresh, please leave a note with your order and we will do our best to accommodate.
