    • Description
Jose Filadelfo is a real find of a coffee. It's a washed single estate Honduran of the Catimor, Catuai and Lempira varietals, produced by Jose Filadelfo Garcia Jimenez. Honduras is an origin that is fast becoming one of our favourites, and definitely one to watch for years to come. As a guide, expect a well balanced cup, that is as sweet as it is pleasantly acidic. It has a smooth chocolatey body, uplifted by a mix of orange tang and honey sweetness.

We think Jose Filadelfo is going to be another huge coffee that will be enjoyed by all, across a range of coffee drinkers and brew methods. This filter roast is a great all rounder coffee that we think will really hit the spot for filter machines, Aeropress and cafetieres.

      Tasting notes:

      CHOCOLATE / ORANGE / HONEY

How you can brew this coffee:
V60, Chemex, Kalita, Syphon, Cafetiere, Aeropress and Drip Machine (Moccamaster, Wilfa Classic etc).

      The Farmer:
Jose Filadelfo Garcia Jimenez first began growing coffee at 23 years old, when he inherited approximately 1/3 sq m of farming land. Everything he learned about growing coffee - how to plant a nursery, how to sow coffee in the final field, how to manage a coffee farm - came from his time working on other people's farms in the area. Together with his stepfather, also a coffee producer, he learned how to pulp his coffee, and through years of hard work managed to expand his farm, and now grows on an area of 4 hectares.

      The Exporter:
Molinos de Honduras was formed in 1960 by a local Honduran family and is the oldest active coffee exporter in Honduras. Volcafe acquired Molinos in the late 1980s.Volcafe aims to form close relationships with producers through their farmer support organisation, who train producers on quality control as well as good business and agronomy practices.

In 2019-20 farmer Jose Filadelfo Garcia Jimenez discovered the benefits of selling his crop directly to the mill & exporter Molinos de Honduras, benefits which include fair and fast payment and opportunities to learn and improve his coffee through their farmer support organisation. He hopes to learn even more about growing coffee so that each year he can sell better quality than the last.

      The Origin:
Honduras is located in Central America, and is one of the world’s biggest exporters of washed Arabica coffee. As an origin it’s fairly new to the scene, particularly in the specialty market. In 1970 Instituto Hondureno del Cafe (IHCAFE), the national coffee institute, was founded to improve the quality of the country’s coffee crops, with coffee-tasting laboratories established in each of the six coffee growing regions.
