    The Profile

    The Profile

We've been waiting 4 years for a Kenyan this good, so it would be an understatement to say that we're incredibly excited about this coffee.

An explosion of jammy flavours, this coffee will stay with you for a long time. Full-bodied, it unpacks itself slowly, revealing big bold fruity flavours, with a complimentary acidity that will remain on your pallet for a long while after.

This coffee performs well across all filter methods, but our recommendation would be to brew it with any high extraction method, such as the aeropress or tricolate in order to really maximise all those incredible flavours.

    The Producers

Gathaithi Farmer’s Cooperative Society is located between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare ranges, in the centre of Kenya’s Central Highlands. A short drive north of Nairobi, about 160km as the crow flies, in Nyeri County’s Tetu District.

Gathaithi Factory is operated by Gathaithi Farmers Cooperative Society, which has more than 1,100 active members, who farm on about 143 hectares of land in the area. The co-operative is managed by a democratically elected board of members, each of whom serve as a representative of a community where the cooperative has members.

Their model is to use funds set aside from the previous year’s harvest to provide pre-financing for school fees, access to farm inputs and funds for emergency needs. The cooperative also receives assistance for farmer training and input access, with a long term goal to increase coffee production in terms of volume with focus on quality and sustainability.

    • Wholesale

We are always looking to work with like-minded businesses to serve our coffee.

If you're interested in serving this locally roasted Edinburgh coffee as your main offering, a guest appearance or as bags of retail, get in touch with us on  roastery@machina-coffee.co.uk or call (0131) 656 9565.

    • Roasting Schedule

Your coffee will be roasted within 1-16 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point at 12-36 days old). We recommend letting this coffee rest for at least 12 days before using, in order to release excess gas which can impact the flavour of your cup.

If you would like your coffee fresh, please leave a note with your order and we will do our best to accommodate.
