    The Coffee

    One of two outstanding Rwandan lots we have sourced through the excellent Raw Materials, a not for profit CIC who feeds all their funds back into grass roots coffee where it's needed most.

    Gisheke is a stand out washed Rwandan, with a smooth almond body, a layer of raspberry and a sparking red grapefruit tang / acidity.

    This coffee is roasted for both filter & espresso. It's best served as a straight espresso or long black, as milk would destroy it's beauty.

    We brewed this on a La Marzocco Linea Classic, set to 96c - with a recipe of 17g IN / 37g OUT / 35 secs.

    Gisheke is a washing station in Nyamasheke District in Rwanda run by Muraho Trading Co. MTCo help affiliate cooperatives improve the quality of their production, receive higher prices for their coffee, and introduce them to new markets, supported by the importers of this coffee Raw Material.

    Accessible only by boat, the station overlooks Lake Kivu, receiving more than 40% of its cherries from Mushungwe Island. Its geography makes it the ideal location to process and dry natural lots, due to a consistent wind flow that moves between two hills that lead towards Kivu, Idjwi Island and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

    • Roasting Schedule

      Your coffee will be roasted within 1-16 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point at 12-36 days old). We recommend letting this coffee rest for at least 12 days before using, in order to release excess gas which can impact the flavour of your cup.

      If you would like your coffee fresh, please leave a note with your order and we will do our best to accommodate.
