Adriana Franco is a small micro lot we have picked up as part of our drive to further explore Colombian coffee in all it's forms. This time in the exciting Pink Bourbon varietal - the first for us. It's a very interesting coffee that we snapped up very quick, due to it's unique profile and very limited supply.

We normally manage to apply suitable tasting notes to coffees pretty quickly, as most origins tend to lend themselves to typical characteristics and flavour patterns. But this coffee was a hard one to place, mainly due to it's super complex and refined profile.

As a guide, expect a full bodied cup with a red grape tartness, supported by a spiced apple finish and butterscotch & grenadine like body. The reference to grenadine refers to it's syrupy and grainy mouthfeel. It's a very complex but also extremely balanced coffee.

Please note: This coffee is in very limited supply and will probably only last for the rest of March and the first half of April.

The farm:

Adrianna Franco is a smallholder farmer from the region of Planadas, Tolima. Her 5ha farm Finca El Triunfo sits at 1,725masl. She cultivates amongst other varieties, Pink Bourbon, which is renowned for its exceptional cup quality at altitude. Like Jorge Rojas, Adrianna is part of Grupo Empresarial Agprocem Planadas, or ‘GEA’, an association of specialty growers dedicated to sustainable, ecological agriculture. Through the sharing of knowledge the group aim to encourage entrepreneurship and improve the livelihoods of their members.

This 100% Pink Bourbon lot is washed with a 38 hour dry fermenta- tion. The parchment is dried slowly on raised beds in a specialised marquee for 18 days.

Planadas is located on the southern tip of the department of Tolima, close to borders with Huila and Cauca. Situated in the foothills of the central mountain range of the Colombian Andes, the region benefits from excellent altitudes, cool temperatures, plentiful sunshine and rain, and rich volcanic soils.

Your coffee will be roasted within 5-10 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point of 10-36 days). We recommend letting this coffee rest for at least 12 days before using.
