    The Coffee

    The Coffee

Kiganjo is one of the most outstanding Kenyans of the year, sourced through our premium partners Nordic Approach, who really excel in sourcing high grade African coffees.

Of all the Kenyan's that we cupped from the 2023 season, Kiganjo stood out as one of the most refined lots, with amazing clarity; a product of careful selection and fantastic processing.

Kiganjo is a very well-structured, complex and bright washed Kenyan AB. It offers intense stewed red fruits, a juicy rhubarb tartness, an unusual cardamom kick and a vibrant but not overpowering citric acidity.

Overall, it's a coffee with amazing balance. Whilst it's very full bodied and high in acidity, it's is also a surprisingly accessible coffee that is very easy drinking.

    The Farmer

    The Farmer

Kiganjo is a coffee factory or wet mill, owned and operated by Thiririka Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS). Thiririka FCS are the biggest cooperative in Kiambu County, and operate two other factories—Githeme and Ndundu—alongside Kiganjo.

They process cherries from around 1,500 smallholder producers, well known for producing exceptionally high quality coffee. Thiririka FCS maintain rigorous quality-driven standards for sorting and processing, as well as ensuring active members adhere to stringent agronomic best practices, all to ensure the best quality and highest price for their members.

As well as sorting and processing, Thiririka FCS coordinate the marketing and auction of coffee, and are often able to return up to 90% of the profits to their producers.

    • Wholesale

We are always looking to work with likeminded businesses to serve our coffee.

If you're interested in serving this locally roasted Edinburgh coffee as your main offering, a guest appearance or as bags of retail, get in touch with us on roastery@machina-coffee.co.uk or call (0131) 656 9565.

    • Roasting Schedule

Your coffee will be roasted within 1-16 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point at 12-36 days old). We recommend letting this coffee rest for at least 12 days before using, in order to release excess gas which can impact the flavour of your cup.

If you would like your coffee fresh, please leave a note with your order and we will do our best to accommodate.
