    The Profile

    The Profile

Kilimbi is a testament to the craft of Rwandan coffee making.

Its vivid, bright, and juicy characteristics transport you to a citrus grove with prominent notes of pomelo, followed by the delightful emergence of blackcurrant and rhubarb.

The defining feature of this exceptional brew is its jammy sweetness, which envelopes the taste buds.

You'll notice that Kilimbi is a result of honey processing, which sits between natural and washed. it involves peeling away the coffee cherry's outer layers, leaving behind a sweet, sticky mucilage - hence the term 'honey'. Honey processed coffees are known for providing a good level of fruitiness as well as sweetness.

    The Producers

    The Producers

Kilimbi, a pioneer in the Rwandan coffee scene, is known as one of the first washing stations to gain approval for the production of natural and honey processed coffee.

The elevation of Kilimbi lends itself incredibly well to the production of honeys and naturals. Drying beds stretch across a large open plain, where airflow and sunlight have maximum exposure to the coffee as it dries.

What makes Kilimbi special, beyond its exceptional coffee, is the collaborative spirit of approximately 750 smallholder farmers who work hand-in-hand with the washing station, guided by the leadership of Managing Director Joseph Ntarindwa.

Much like Gisheke, Kilimbi is accessible only by boat, as dedicated farmers embark on a journey across Lake Kivu to deliver their farm’s harvest.

    • Wholesale

We are always looking to work with likeminded businesses to serve our coffee.

If you're interested in serving this locally roasted Edinburgh coffee as your main offering, a guest appearance or as bags of retail, get in touch with us on roastery@machina-coffee.co.uk or call (0131) 656 9565.

    • Roasting Schedule

Your coffee will be roasted within 1-16 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point at 12-36 days old). We recommend letting this coffee rest for at least 12 days before using, in order to release excess gas which can impact the flavour of your cup.

If you would like your coffee fresh, please leave a note with your order and we will do our best to accommodate.
