    Welcome back Brazil

    Welcome back Brazil

Alexandre Silveira is our first Brazil in some time, and what a comeback this origin has made. Coffee production in Brazil is suffering at the hands of the climate crisis, and so we're incredibly appreciative and humbled to get our hands on this fantastic lot.

An incredibly accessible yet delicious cup, enjoy the classic tastes of chocolate and nuts, coupled with a gorgeous baked apple apricot acidity. We're thrilled to be able to offer a coffee at this price point, which in many respects only boosts the accessibility of the cup.

    • Description

Alexandre Silveira is our first Brazil in some time, and what a comeback this origin has made in our offering. You may be aware that coffee production in Brazil is suffering at the hands of the climate crisis, and so we're incredibly appreciative and humbled to get our hands on this fantastic lot.

Although this coffee is incredibly accessible (with classic tasting notes of chocolate, walnut and fudge), don't be fooled into overlooking what it has to offer. We're also thrilled to be able to offer a coffee at this price point, which in many respects only boosts the accessibility of the cup.

      Tasting notes:

      CHOCOLATE / WALNUT / FUDGE

How you can brew this coffee:
Espresso, Cafetiere, Stove Top (Moka Pot), Aeropress and Drip Machine (Moccamaster, Wilfa Classic etc).

      Profile:

Rich in body, sweet in taste, Alexandre Silveira has all the qualities of a good, reliable cup that can be savoured by all. It's exceptionally round and smooth, and very drinkable, with an enduring chocolatey, nutty flavour. Notes of baked apple and apricot filter through, complementing the richness with a really lovely, subtle acidity. This is a coffee we will be drinking for quite some time.

      The Origin:

Amidst the dry and arid climate of the Caatinga in north East Brazil sits an oasis of cool, moist and fertile land, home to Alexandre Silveira and Silva of Vitória Farm. This area is blessed with an extended rainy reason, allowing multiple flowerings and harvests, and because of its cool, damp microclimate and higher altitude, produces sweeter and more complex coffees than you might associate with Brazil.

In 1992 at just 26 years old, Alexandre bought 23 hectares of land. Well established as one of the top producers in the area, he now grows coffee on 131 hectares.

      Climate Crisis:

As you may know, coffee production in Brazil has been flagging in recent years due to the worsening of climate conditions needed to grow coffee. Many independent roasters have struggled to get hold of the Brazilian crop due to the immense reduction in yield (down around 25% last year). There's fears that coffee production in countries like Brazil may come to a halt within the next 30 years if actions aren't taken to remedy the climate crisis.

This is why a commitment to sustainable farming practices is so vital. The climate crisis is a complicated issue with many facets, and coffee production that's kinder to the planet is just one piece of that puzzle - but when you consume specialty grade coffee, you are opting into a system that values sustainability, fairness, quality and transparency, especially in the face of the future of our planet.
